AI, SEO, and Automation: How to start marketing a new product category? Interview with Joost de Valk

I cover the cold start problem in marketing: how do you launch a new product into a category that doesn’t yet have a name, let alone an audience? Drawing on my experience building Yoast from zero, I discuss how SEO has changed over 15 years and why the game is much harder now than when you could still buy links and check PageRank. I also talk about the tension between AI-generated content and the kind of authentic expertise that actually earns trust, and what that means for how I think about building and marketing new products today.
